Old Window, New Bookshelf

In this living space, we worked with the home’s original architecture to carve out a warm, functional zone that feels both elevated and easygoing. The custom oak built-ins were designed to integrate seamlessly with the room’s existing proportions, offering both closed storage and styled open shelving. We worked with white oak veneer cabinets and added interest using a ¼” shadow gap that I found to be extra successful. Its halfway between grid paper and art deco.

We kept the palette natural and clean, letting the materials speak—oak, plaster, glass, and aged brass—paired with minimal styling for a calm, collected look.

The built-in window bench tucks neatly under restored heritage windows, creating a perfect spot to read, recharge, or just stare out at the trees pretending you're reading.

As always in these older homes, the details matter. We worked within the compartments of a century home and leaned into what was there—because that’s where the soul is.
